Warr: Wissenschaftliche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Raketentechnik und Raumfahrt
A German abbreviation, which translates to “Scientific Workgroup for Rocketry and Spaceflight”. WARR is a student organization based in TUM in Munich, Germany. I was tasked to design artifacts such as business cards, flyers, and a mission patch regarding a mission aiming sunbeams at the moon.

Original design
Main concerns involved wanting an updated patch that utilized their current color palette, which this one did not have.

First draft
Brainstormed the placement of the sun and moon icons with free use graphics. Main concern of readability with the thin lines.

Second draft
Moved toward abstracted sun rays and cleaner silhouettes, however the rays seemed lost in the placement on the moon.

Third draft
Settled on a wave of rays instead focusing on a point to match the circularity of the elements. Used red as a sample color.
Final designs
Opted for a clearer moon illustration that I freehanded, and added an additional sunray. The constraints I had to consider involved using a 3 color palette, disregarding the white background. The objective of the patch involved its readability in small sizes for merchandise like shirts.
